Partner

An experienced political and communications professional, Alyssa Cass is a partner at Slingshot Strategies and founded its communications practice. She has featured in City & State’s Political PR 50 power list and was named one of Top 75 Political Consultants in 2022.

Alyssa is a leading advisor to top elected officials, candidates, and causes at the national, state, and local levels. During the 2022 cycle, she spearheaded the communications strategy for two of New York's most competitive, most watched congressional elections, leading media and messaging strategy for Representative Pat Ryan (in both the NY-19 special election and the NY-18 general election) and Carlina Rivera in New York's 10th Congressional District. Representative Ryan's special election victory in August was heralded nationally as one of the biggest upsets of the cycle and one of the brightest Democratic victories in an otherwise challenging year.

Alyssa led the communications strategy for the White House-affiliated Community Violence Intervention Initiative (CVIC), which worked with mayors in 16 of the largest cities across the country to build real public safety infrastructure. She also works with Open New York, transforming a burgeoning collective of online New York YIMBYs into the state's leading pro-housing group that is now nationally recognized by reporters, elected officials, and policy advocates.

She was previously a Principal at New Deal Strategies, where she helped clients like Representative Jamaal Bowman, Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland, Justice Democrats, Sunrise Movement, National Domestic Workers Alliance, and the Revolving Door Project craft defining narratives, raise their profiles, elevate their work, and win elections. Prior to NDS, Alyssa was the political and communications director at Future Now and Future Now Fund, where she oversaw the PAC’s multi-state spending strategy, funding tactics to reach the greatest number of potential voters and to build the long-term infrastructure and capacity most states don’t have.

Alyssa grew up in Colorado and later graduated from Colby College, in Waterville, Maine. She’s been a proud New Yorker since 2009, and has lived in 15 apartments since arriving in the city.
