Evan Roth Smith joins The Bulwark to discuss which messages work best for Kamala Harris
Slingshot partner Evan Roth Smith discussed Blueprint’s efforts to poll test different messages for presidential candidate Kamala Harris. Emphasizing her time as an attorney and her focus on economic issues worked; emphasizing her time in the Biden administration and her focus on protecting the LGBTQ community did not.
“It allowed her to speak to things like going after cartels and MS-13 and human traffickers to mitigate some of the vulnerabilities that she and the Democratic Party have on immigration. It also allowed her to speak to the economy, because she has these great suits and prosecutions she undertook against BP and health insurance companies and housing and finance companies that were ripping people off. So it let her speak to the economy as well. And finally, it got her beyond her time in Washington and her time as Vice President. How does she communicate ‘I’m serious about immigration, I’m serious about the economy,’ without mentioning the words ‘Joe Biden’s Vice President’ which suddenly ties her to all of this mess.”
