“The political mood does not necessarily translate into unseating incumbents in a primary, and the turnout is just too low,” said political consultant Sam Raskin.

"This is kind of the opening act for what happens in November in districts like this that are going to determine control of the House," Democratic strategist Alyssa Cass told Axios.

This is a city of immigrants…and it's easy to push off all these failures on crime, on homelessness, on schools increasingly—we’re seeing migrants get brought into that conversation—it’s very easy to point to that and say, ‘that’s why I’m not getting it done.’”

“Long Island is running hot, and when people run hot, they run Republican,” said Alyssa Cass, a Democratic strategist. “George Santos was not an accident. His election was the direct result of years and years of careful Republican recruitment, party building and outreach in Long Island.”

“Republican fumbling on the border gives Democrats a unique opportunity to seize the issue,” she said. “I think that if Democrats message aggressively and, sometimes, perhaps uncomfortably, they can really seize the advantage on this issue.”

The Pilip-Suozzi race is showing the contours of the broader campaign that will play out over the next nine months, according to Alyssa Cass, a Democratic strategist working to help flip the House.

“I think this is really smart politics from the governor,” Democratic consultant Alyssa Cass said. “It’s taking away a big talking point for Republicans. They talk about this retail stuff all the time.”

A newly released public opinion poll suggests that it’s not enough for Joe Biden to simply say he is committed to lowering prices. He must do more to explain to voters what specific costs he’s been tackling.

Evan Roth Smith, a partner at the Democratic consulting firm Slingshot Strategies, noted Biden’s working-class “Scranton Joe” persona, built over five decades in politics, has essentially disappeared.

“Voters do not have a clear throughline for what Biden’s trying to do on foreign policy,” pollster Evan Roth Smith told Semafor. “They don’t understand, or they don’t see any linkage, between the decisions made around Afghanistan and the decisions made around Ukraine and the decisions made around Israel.”

"One of the possibilities here is a potential indictment of the mayor," Roth Smith said. "We wanted to see how voters would react to something like that, right?"

“The president needs to go out and relentlessly target price reduction,’’ said Evan Roth Smith, lead pollster for Blueprint, a Democratic public opinion group. “Voters don't view him as in the fight on prices.’’

The poll was the second this week to deliver devastating news for Adams. After a Quinnipiac University poll found him receiving a record-low approval rating of 28 percent, Slingshot found the mayor had a 37-56 job approval rating….A Slingshot representative said no one commissioned the private survey.

“You can talk about these things everywhere, at the loudest possible volume. You can put the president on a podium in front of a pharmaceutical company headquarters, talking about bringing the prices down,” said Blueprint strategist Evan Roth Smith.
